About NCSDF, Our Mission & Our Values
The dual mission of the NC State Defense Force is to provide an organized, trained, disciplined, rapid response volunteer team (CERT) to assist citizens, state and local government agencies or civil relief organizations during emergencies or natural disasters AND to ensure the welfare, freedom and safety of North Carolina citizens serving in support and defense of the United States and North Carolina State Constitutions. As a state militia, we embody the traditions of the citizen militia which has served our country and North Carolina since colonial times. State militias are recognized in Federal Law [32 U.S.C. s.109]. The North Carolina State Code [Article 127A as amended in June 2011] authorizes the existence of a State Defense Militia.
- United States Constitution
- United States Code, Title 32, Section 109
- North Carolina General Statues Chapter 127A
NCSDF has a steadfast purpose to help ensure the safety of the communities they stand guard in, assist local and federal law enforcement when needed or requested and assist their communities in times of emergencies or disasters by providing a deployable CERT.
NCSDF reaches out to both current serving and veterans to remind them of their oaths, to teach them more about the Constitution they swore to defend, and to inspire them to defend it. See below for details on how we do that. NCSDF also includes a membership program designated as “Associate Members”, which consists of patriotic citizens who have not served in uniform but who serve now by supporting this mission with an active membership and engaging in volunteer activities. NCSDF welcomes ALL members and appreciates their support of the NCSDF mission.
Our mottos are “Parati Servire” which means “Ready to Serve” and “Facta Non Verba” which means “Deeds, Not Words.”
North Carolina State Defense Force (NCSDF) is a pro-government, pro-law enforcement, non-partisan association of current and formerly serving military, police, and first responders, who pledge to fulfill the oath all military and police take to “defend the Constitution against all enemies, foreign and domestic.” That oath, mandated by Article VI of the Constitution itself, is to the Constitution, not to any politician currently serving in office.
We value community safety, and believe every member of our communities throughout the state of North Carolina has a constitutional right to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness without fear of violence, anarchy, threats or intimidation. We value community safety and NCSDF volunteers pledge to help their communities in times of need.
We value readiness and preparation and encourage every member to become actively involved in furthering their knowledge, skills and certifications. FEMA training and certifications, CPR and basic life support, communications, disaster preparedness, threat awareness, public safety, cyber safety and many like this are just a few examples of the type of education and training NCSDF helps facilitate for its members.
